A unique icon, the composition of more than 50 images of the Most Holy Theotokos, was created for the parish of the Church of All Russian Saints in St. Petersburg.
The parishioners have been collecting funds for the icon “The Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos over the Russian Land” with a collection of icons of the Theotokos for over a year, according to the website of the temple.
This image, which is 2 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, will be a pair to a large icon of All Russian Saints in the church. The icon painter, Yevgeny Malyagin, painted the unique image of the Mother of God.
On May 21, 2021, the faithful, led by the parish rector, Archimandrite Jerome (Testin), solemnly met the icon in the church and read an akathist in front of it.
“The Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos over the Russian Land with a set of icons of the Theotokos is an image of the Russian land as the House of the Most Holy Theotokos. Compositionally around the central image – the Protection Veil – there are more than fifty icons of the Mother of God from all corners of our Motherland, revealed on the Russian land by the Most Holy Theotokos,” the message on the website says.
Now the parish of the church is going to publish a small booklet, which will include the troparia of all the images of the Most Holy Theotokos depicted on the unique icon.
In addition, their plans include the development and printing of a multi-page full-color album with images of all icons, their detailed descriptions and prayers.
