The celebration of the eighth anniversary of the enthronement of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, took place at the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on August 17, 2022. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the main square of the monastery, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
The service was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, who was co-served by members of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
After reading the Gospel, the Primate of the UOC addressed the faithful with a sermon. The archpastor drew attention to the fact that sin, although it seems attractive, is in fact a poison that sooner or later leads to death. God’s grace acts differently: “If a person has the grace of God in himself, it is easy for him to live, and no obstacles, difficulties or problems of life can make this person lose his temper. He never loses his dignity,” said Metropolitan Onuphry. At the end of his sermon, the metropolitan encouraged those present to spend their lives in repentance, prayer, love, to endure and forgive each other, because “this is the meaning of the whole Christian feat – to learn to love God and neighbor as oneself.”
The participants in the service offered up prayers for peace in Ukraine.
After the dismissal, Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail congratulated His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry on behalf of the Holy Synod, bishops, clergy, monastics and faithful children of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry thanked everyone for their congratulations and expressed gratitude for the prayerful support in the archpastoral labors.
“Everything good that has been done during this period is the fruit of our common efforts, our common prayers, our patience and humility. I wish that the Lord will continue to be with us, so that the next years – for as long as God determines each of us to live – will be successful, so that the Lord blesses our land with peace,” said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
At the end of the celebrations, the Primate of the UOC gave all believers an archpastoral blessing.
