The Greek Areopag (Supreme Court) has cancelled the verdict of the Thrace court of appeals, which on March 1, 2012, sentenced Archimandrite Ephraim and Monk Arsenios of Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos – along with the presiding judge of the court of first instance, Maria Psalti – to six months imprisonment with a three-year stay of execution. Each of the mentioned persons was acquitted of the accusation of delaying the public announcement of the court decision regarding the exchange of the monastery’s property on Lake Vistonida. The Areopag decided that Maria Psalti did not violate her judicial duty and that Archimandrite Ephraim and Monk Arsenios did not incite her to this action.
