Doctors from a covid hospital rescued a pregnant patient with severe covid in Cherkessk. The unborn child had oxygen starvation, so the doctors decided to have a cesarean section at the 29th week of pregnancy. And they saved two lives.
A girl was born weighing 1800 grams and 44 centimeters tall. The newborn was tested for coronavirus. The result was negative.
“By this time, the woman’s lung damage reached 90%. The woman was transferred to the intensive care unit for non-invasive ventilation of the lungs. Fortunately, the disease was overcome and the patient recovered. The other day she was discharged from the hospital,” Izvestia reports.
The child is in the perinatal center. The mother will be able to take him soon.
Doctors Stopped a Cytokine Storm in Chelyabinsk
A 40-year-old resident of Chelyabinsk fell ill with coronavirus and was hospitalized three days later. Standard therapy did not help her, and her condition worsened. Doctors applied a unique method of treatment, and after a month and a half the patient fully recovered.
A patient with covid was admitted to City Clinical Hospital No. 1 of Chelyabinsk in a serious condition. She was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, her temperature did not drop below 39.5 degrees, CT scan showed an increasing percentage of lung damage.
Standard methods of treatment did not help, respiratory failure worsened, and the patient began to develop a cytokine storm.
A cytokine storm is a reaction of the immune system to a virus, leading to damage to the body’s own tissues.
The doctors decided to transfer the patient to intensive care. They applied the Fresenium Multifiltrate treatment, which has recently become available to anesthesiologists-resuscitators.
To start therapy, the hospital needed to purchase an additional CytoSorb column for the device. It costs more than 150 thousand rubles and can be used only for one patient, reports 74.ru.

The woman was connected to high-flow oxygen and hemofiltration was performed with sorption of cytokines. After 10 hours, the procedure gave a positive result: the patient’s temperature began to decrease.
“This is an effective method of preventing the development of systemic inflammation and reducing it to a non-toxic level while preserving the patient’s immune system,” said Ilya Khudyakov, head of the ORiT round-the-clock department of the City Clinical Hospital No. 1.
In total, it took 36 hours to cleanse the blood of toxins. All this time, the patient was monitored by doctors, she was not left unattended for a minute: it was necessary to continuously monitor the blood circuit, numerous sensors, and monitor the functioning of vital organs.
The cytokine storm was stopped. After 10 days, the woman was transferred from the intensive care unit to the infectious diseases department to continue treatment.
In total, she spent 50 days in the hospital, after which she was discharged home in satisfactory condition.
“The patient went to the outpatient stage under the supervision of a local therapist with careful monitoring of all basic indicators of the functional state after suffering COVID-19,” said the head of the infectious diseases department Svetlana Merkulova.
