His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, once again appealed to women who are thinking about having an abortion not to do it, but to give birth to their child, and if it is not possible to keep him, hand him over to the Church for upbringing – to church shelters and crisis centers.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted in his video message on the occasion of the opening of the X General Church Congress on Social Service, “if a woman wants to keep her child, the Church will definitely help her.”
In this regard, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill repeated his earlier call to women thinking about having an abortion:
“If you cannot raise your child, whom you have given birth to or are ready to do it, – do not kill your child, give birth to him and give him to us, the Church, and we will do everything to raise and to help your child to stand on his own feet, and we will never prevent you, his mother, from visiting him, from feeling unity with your child. On the contrary, we will do everything to strengthen your family, albeit incomplete, but valuable for both God and for our entire Motherland.”
In general, as Patriarch Kirill noted, if 10 years ago there was only one church shelter for women in a crisis situation in the Russian Orthodox Church, today there are already 77 such centers that are located in different Russian cities.
“At the same time, it is important that we accept everyone, regardless of their religion and citizenship,” concluded His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.
