The Basics of Orthodox Culture course (BOC) in schools cannot be regarded as a secondary subject, because today we fight for the souls of children with negative information, including from the Internet. Therefore teachers of the BOC have a tremendous task said His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
“The influence of the school and the influence of the Internet, the influence of parents and the influence of the Internet are incommensurable, but, nevertheless, we cannot stray from our path. And in order for our movement to be successful, each of us must realize that we are at the forefront,” said the Patriarch on Tuesday during a meeting with teachers of “Basics of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics” and “Basics of Spiritual and Moral Culture of the Peoples of Russia”, reports patriarchia.ru.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill emphasized, “in no case should we consider what we are doing is one of the secondary educational programs of the secondary school.”
“This is the most important thing – this is the struggle for souls, for the worldview of our children. This means that we need to learn how to influence their consciousness in such a way that young people develop a critical attitude to the information flow in which they are immersed,” said Patriarch Kirill.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that only the coordination of educational processes in the family and at school will ensure the spiritual, moral and intellectual formation of young people.
“But it is very crucial that children perceive school education as interesting and relevant. Therefore, the teachers of the “Basics of Orthodox Culture” are entrusted with a titanic task, and may God give all of you the strength to cope with it!” His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said.
