Thanks to the faith and piety of one Bessarabian woman, the new Church of St. Nicholas and St. Stephen the Great is being built in the town of Edineț, in the Republic of Moldova.
In her will, Maria Andronache bequeathed her fortune for the building of a church that “will belong canonically to the Romanian Patriarchate no matter the future historical context”.
“Religious offices are to be held in the Romanian language and all the ordained priests shall be Romanian, offering uninterrupted prayer for the Unity of the Romanian Nation,” she added, writing with capital letters the name of her native language and the ideal of national unity.
His Eminence Antonie, Bishop of Bălți, visited the building site of the church last Tuesday. He and His Eminence Ignatie, Bishop of Huși, had blessed the foundation on March 23, 2021.
