A church of the Russian Orthodox Church may be built in Ethiopia, said the Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, Alemayehu Tegenu Argau.
“At the moment there are no Russian churches in Ethiopia, but, of course, they can appear. There are no obstacles for this – please welcome,” the ambassador said to RIA Novosti.
Alemayehu Tegenu Argau noted that Russia and Ethiopia are bound by long traditions of cooperation, including in a religious area.
“Given that we have already built a system of cooperation. Our collaboration is actively developing. Not so long ago, in 2018, Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov – ed.) came to Addis Ababa, where he met with our Patriarch Abuna Matthias II,” the ambassador said.
According to him, the recent creation of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa will help establish religious ties and additional cooperation with other countries of the continent.
It was reported before that by decision of December 29, 2021, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to establish the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, consisting of two dioceses: North African and South African.
