In order for our thoughts to always be kind, we need to read the Holy Scriptures, the works of the holy fathers and pray, filling ourselves with holy words said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine in his sermon during the Divine Liturgy, which took place on the square in front of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on June 12, 2022, on the day of the Holy Trinity, the feast of Pentecost, reports the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
If one does not enough time for prayer and cannot always follow the prayer rule in the morning and evening, one should offer short prayers, the metropolitan advised.
“Not waiting until we have a free hour and we get up to pray – this may not happen for a long time – we must offer short prayers: for example, “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner”, “Most Holy Mother of God, save me, a sinner”, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”…” said His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
He stressed that one should put one’s mind into such prayers.
“Then the thoughts that will be born from us will be useful to other people, and useful to ourselves. They will make us able to contain in ourselves the amazing grace of God, the grace of the Holy Spirit, which sanctifies a person, strengthens him and helps him to live worthily on earth and be saved in Heaven in Christ Jesus our Lord,” the metropolitan pointed out.
During the service, solemn petitions and prayers for peace in Ukraine were raised.
