The Synodal Department for Charity of the Russian Orthodox Church donated 1 million rubles to the Rostov-on-Don diocese to purchase humanitarian aid for refugees from Donbass.
These funds were used to purchase the most necessary things at the moment: water, cereals, canned food, sunflower oil, sugar, salt, tea, instant food, wet wipes, disposable tableware, baby diapers, medicines, disinfectants, fruits and stationery for children, reports the press service of the Synodal Department.
“We will distribute it at temporary accommodation centers, as well as at our humanitarian aid center, to which refugees apply on their own,” said Priest Evgeny Osyak, Head of the Social Department of the Rostov-on-Don diocese.
The Synodal Department, earlier reported that, with the support of the Church, 23 refugees were accommodated in Novocherkassk, 40 people – in a church shelter in the Shakhty diocese of the Don Metropolis, 70 people – in a church institution of the Voronezh diocese. Also parishioners accommodate refugees at home.
Priests are on duty at temporary accommodation centers, who provide spiritual assistance to people and clarify urgent needs for organizing further targeted assistance.
In the dioceses where refugees from the Donbass come, church aid headquarters are organized, priests are on duty at temporary accommodation centers. Priests, volunteers and sisters of mercy bring hot meals, clothes and essentials to temporary accommodation centers. Dioceses accept humanitarian aid.
The diocesan humanitarian aid center in Rostov-on-Don (Orbitalnaya st., 1-b) operates daily. Also, assistance for refugees from Donbass can be transferred to any parish of the Rostov diocese.
The Church also provides assistance at the railway station of Rostov-on-Don, where refugees arrive and where they are expected to be distributed to temporary accommodation centers. The social department of the diocese daily gives the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, on duty at the station, water and dry rations for refugees.
In the Rostov diocese, there is a diocesan hotline for assistance to refugees: 8 (800) 775-81-30.
