In his message to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, praised the relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, noting that he remembers with special warmth the meetings with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill in Moscow and in Lebanese Berk, reports the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.
“At the present historical moment, the situation in the world is extremely turbulent,” the Maronite Patriarch stated, noting that the root of these troubles lies in the numerous conflicts that are taking place in the world and, in particular, in the Levant. He also mentioned a different kind of misfortune that affected to one degree or another every person on the face of the earth – the COVID-19 pandemic. “May Almighty God, by His mercy, deliver the world from it,” wrote the head of the Maronite Church.
“Unfortunately, we are facing even more difficult problems in Lebanon, our own political, economic and social problems caused by both internal and external factors,” Patriarch Beshara Boutros al-Rai emphasized. “And we are grateful for the help that comes to us from different countries, and, of course, from Russia.”
Addressing the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, he noted: “We know that you, Your Holiness, monitor the situation in our country and the region, follow the fate of Christians in this part of the world and do everything possible together with the Russian government to help… We are grateful for this and pray that God will continue to grant you health, wisdom and strength to continue to have this important role, changing for the better the regional events that are taking place at the moment in the history of the Levant.”
