The Bishop of Athens and Archbishop of Greece Ieronymos II issued a statement on Friday in regard to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic which has changed all of our lives in the last several days, reports Greek Reporter.
“I stay at home because I love ‘the other:’ each other. I’m not staying in because I’m afraid, but because I love. Love sends fear away!” His Beatitude Ieronymos said, in words which went to the hearts of all the faithful.
The Archbishop of the Church of Greece also suggested that people should turn their homes into small churches.
”Let’s make every house a small church, because we love God even if we can’t meet Him in His own house; because we love our neighbor. God is everywhere. We meet Him everywhere with our prayer,” the Greek Archbishop added.
His Beatitude Ieronymos’ message also stated that ”Our Church is near you. With you, next to you. She loves all of you and prays for you all.”
He went on to say ”We’re waiting for Pascha. It will come! It won’t be long. And then, the entire world will shine from the resurrection’s light, the light of joy and hope. Have courage, my brothers, my beloved children! Our Lord is near!”
It is noted that following a governmental decision, all churches have been shuttered in Greece. Individuals can still go to their houses of worship, but only on their own, in order to pray.
