“A Russian person in his culture is oriented on love, kindness, openness,” Lazar writes in his article published on Thursday by the Izvestia daily.
He reminded that the word “Chassid” comes from the word “chesed,” which means “mercy, kindness.”
The rabbi noted that it is not by chance that the town where the Jewish movement Chabad Lubavitch was founded comes from the word “love.”
“And probably it is not accidental that Lubavitchi is located in Russia,” Lazar said.
Sharing his impressions from the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries in New York, he said that participants in the forum mentioned the situation in Russia as an example of positive settlement of national and religious problems, when “tough position of authorities against anti-Semitism and aggressive nationalism gives its fruit.”
