As spiritual guide of prenatal clinic priest Dionisy Reutsky told Komsomolskaya Pravda daily, it had been practiced for two years and included the days of Easter and Christmas celebrations. This year the action is prolonged for three more days.
“We want to avoid abortions at least on these days as from the Orthodox point of view it is a murder,” Father Dionisy said.
Doctors say that formally the law is not violated.
“There is an order of the Russian Health Ministry that recommends to hold an examination up to seven days and not to make an abortion on the day of appeal. Thus, a woman is given time to think it over, to avoid spontaneous decisions. If a woman practices another faith or has medical indications for an abortion, she will be headed to the in-patient clinic. Anyway, she won’t be left without help,” doctors say.
