With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, St. Xenia Church in Methuen, MA will be hosting a Lenten Choir Retreat the second weekend of Great Lent, March 13-16, 2014.
The retreat is designed for church musicians of all ages, and will be conducted in English. Together, singers and conductors will prepare the services of Soul Saturday, and the second Sunday of Great Lent (St. Gregory Palamas).
Special virtual master classes (via Skype) with Maestro Vladimir Gorbik, choir director of the Moscow Representation Church of Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, will highlight the weekend. Edifying presentations by Dr. Vladmir Morosan on “The Musical Ethos of Orthodox Lenten Services,” Laryssa Doohovskoy on “Vocal Health,” and Reader Robert Stauffer on “The Canon as a Musical Construct” will be given over the course of the weekend.
